If I Die Tonight

If I die tonight,
Will I be missed?
I do not ask for much.
May be a few tears…shed unintentionally.
Or your hands encountering a surprise as you grab
Emptiness from my side of the bed in the morning.
Perhaps a few words of anger
Furiously flung in the still air.
May be a few moments devoted
To recollection…
May be a little gratitude
For the moments of bliss and peace.
May be a little forgiveness
For harsh words, distrust and greed.
May be a few nights of sleeplessness
Dedicated to demolishing brick by brick,
The future we built together.
I do not ask for much,
But that is assuming that I’ll die tonight…
