Let’s Make Memories

Let’s make memories,
my love, because
there are many
making love and war.
Unlike them,
let’s be led
by wisdom
not passion.

Let’s make memories,
of lingering kisses
with an aftertaste
of over-sweetened coffee,
of sleepless nights
of longing,
of discussions on
Derrida and Nietzsche,
Of the many tears and smiles
and the castles of hope
built vainly
in moments of passion.

Hold my hand, my love,
and let me hold yours.
While the world
continues to shed
innocent blood
for love and war,
we will be quiet
and make neither,
dreading nothing
except perhaps interruption
while we make memories…
