Prices

He wanted to know
what she charged
in return for a night of love.
He chose not to ask
lest he lose her company,
refreshing, enlivening…
His nervous glances
and stammers said it all
and she knew
what his mind conspired.

She spoke the answer
within her amused head.

Genuine admiration
for my pretty face,
a little respect
for my ideologies,
you see, love
is too mainstream,
the ability to amuse me
with talks and arguments,
a little gratitude
for the precious time spent.

She chose to remain quiet
because she was unaffordable.
