The Blue Bride

The bride in the blue dress
was proud of her choice.
The colour of her dress
and the man she chose to love…

And she hoped he’d realize
the person he was embracing
was not a white canvas
waiting to be painted on
with the colours he chose.
But someone mysterious
and deep like the sea,
sometimes a beautiful illusion
like the infinite sky,
with frilled layers of melancholy
made pretty by sequins of elegance.

He was a practical man.
He just assumed
that the woman he loved
happened to dislike white.
