Plastic Ideals

The responsible citizens
debated on a rainy night,
huddled up inside
their air-conditioned cars,
on whether it should be jute
or cotton or metal or glass
that should replace
the cursed plastic.
“It should be banned.”
stated one
and they all agreed.

The irresponsible citizen
rode past them
in his rusty bicycle,
carrying the bag of flour
he had spent
the last of his
hard-earned money on.
He thanked
the blessed plastic bag
for keeping his food dry.
