Don’t Bring Women’s Rights Into This

“Don’t bring women’s rights into this.”
Said the extremist, waving the bright flag
of misogyny and ignorance on her face.
She was then told
about the supreme culture
of a bronze-age civilization
that needed to be protected
from the immoral seculars.

“Don’t bring women’s rights into this.”
Said the capitalist in the Armani suit,
reeking of expensive perfume.
She was then told
about how she should dress
because she worked with men
and that without her scarf
she was provoking them to misbehave.

“Don’t bring women’s rights into this.”
She was told all her life,
Until she understood that the liars
were afraid of the potential
of an empowered woman.
